HH: How do you do after having out your new record Obscenities In B-flat?

Rik: Ok...

HH: Are you pleased with the record?

Rik: Yes, very pleased. Mean, it is the best recording we've accomplished under the name Deranged so far... Without a doubt the tightest and best production yet... Anyway, we have started to work on a new CD. We're just working on a couple of songs but it sounds so far pretty damn cool.

HH: What makes Obscenities In B-Flat better than the previous album Plainfield Cemetery in your opinion?

Rik: I would say the production and all in all much, much better songs.

HH: What is your favorite song on Obscenities In B-Flat and why?

Rik: I don't have a specific favourite song... Most people that know anything about the band, know that I have been doing like most of the lyrics and actual vocal patterns since years back. Lyric / vocal pattern wise I would say that I'm kinda satisfied with a few songs on the Obscenities In B-Flat disc. "Body Fluids From Unknown Source" and "Coven Of Death" just to mention a few.

HH: Obscenities In B-Flat seems to be more structured but it's not less brutal than Plainfield Cemetery Do you agree?

Rik: Yeah... I mean... To be honest, it's nothing we thought about. We're not the type of band that will have band meetings and discuss in which musical direction we'll take the band. We pretty much just write a couple of new songs and record them. Simple as that.

HH: Once again you entered famous Berno Studios for recording. It seems you like this studio, do you?

Rik: Nah! Ha, ha, ha... It's a nice place and it's getting bigger and bigger and gets better gear all the time as well... The Obscenities In B-Flat disc is the 9th full length Johan and I recorded at Berno's, counting a few none Deranged recordings. It takes about half an hour with car going there so it's damn near as well...

HH: The sound of Obscenities In B-flat sounds very organic. Did you record it with digital equipment or did you prefer the analog way?

Rik: I'm a sour old man and I like everything that is analogue. Hell, I still buy vinyls and most recently bought a new record player for about 900 U.S. bucks. Still, we did record the whole sha bang in Pro Tools. Berno got one the best Pro Tools set ups around and we tried that out. Turned out fine.

HH: You've been on a small tour here in Germany a few months ago. How has it been? How did people react on your new songs?

Rik: Good, honestly... The actual tour was all right 'til our vehicle broke down... We were supposed to play the Fuck The Commerce festival as well as another gig down in Germany, in Greifswald. It was supposed to be the last two shows on this small German tour but I guess that at least some noticed that we never either did the F.T.C. festival nor the gig in Greifswald. The thing is that the engine on the camper we were travelling with literally fell in two pieces. We were on our way from a gig in Erlangen to the F.T.C. fest when all of sudden the engine started to sound like the third world war. Stopped on the very nearest rest place we could find and the camper was pretty much just DEAD! Made a phone call to ADAC that after three hours sent a car that picked us, the camper and our trailer up. Drove us to the nearest service garage, being in Plauen, dropped us, the camper and trailer off and since it was a holyday (service garage closed) we had absolutely no idea what to do! Mean, we were two hours away from the F.T.C. fest, without any vehicle, no opportunity to rent a car either as everything was closed so we had to cancel it. The next morning we were told by the guys at the garage that they could maybe get it fixed the next day, if not they would maybe be able to take care off it after the weekend. We kind of quick realized that we would not be able to do the show in Greifswald either so we had to cancel that as well. We left the camper down in Germany, waited for about 20 hours for someone that drove down from Sweden to pick us and our trailer up and went home.
Not mentioned earlier is that on the first date on the tour we got us self a flat tire, and since it was absolutely no tools whatsoever in the camper to change it with we had to call ADAC that came and took care of it. Also, on the third date the battery all of a sudden went bad and we had to ask people with other cars, either at the venues or gas stations to help us out and get it started with cables. It was a absolutely hell on wheels and travelling wise without a doubt the worst tour we have ever done! The good part is that the tour went extremely well so it felt like fucking shame to cancel the last two shows. The response on the four shows we did was great and Martin (our new singer) got very good response as well and a lot of people came up to us saying he's the best singer we have ever had, having in mind we are on our 8th singer by now, that's pretty good. Mean, needless to say how fucking sorry we are that we had to cancel the F.T.C. fest as well as the show in Greifswald. We played the very first F.T.C. so it has always been special to us.

HH: The cover motif of Obscenities in B-flat seems to be inspired by the cover of Metallicas Load record. Is there any connection? Who is responsible for it?

Rik: It does! Man, I haven't thought about that before... No connection whatsoever! Sven from Aborted did it. Thanx pal...

HH: Imagine Obscenities in B-flat is a woman. How would she look like?

Rik: Like Dolly Parton.

HH: Later this year you will go on tour with Incantation. What do you expect from this tour?

Rik: Just being able to play in front of all people that wants to catch us live. Unless we manage to not fuck up the set to much we can be an okay live act. Ha, ha, ha...

HH: Thanks for you time and good luck for the future! Any last words?

Rik: Thanx for the interview. Be sure to check the new CD out!!!
