HH: Hello and congratulations for your very good second album Valor In Hatred! What reactions did you get so far?

Matti: Thanks. Mostly feedback has been good so far, both from fans and reviewers.

HH: Are you pleased with your new record?

Matti: Yes we are indeed. New album beats our debut in every matter. This time we spent a whole month in studio and sounds are just the way we wanted them to be. Our songs and skills have evolved and "Valor in Hatred" is a big leap forward from our debut.

HH: Your death metal style is quite technical and brutal, so what bands have influence on your playing and songwriting style?

Matti: I think Deicide has influenced us most, for they're also our greatest source of inspiration. To mention few more, great bands like Cannibal Corpse, Morbid Angel, and Nile also have affected us.

HH: How long did it take to write the songs for Valor In Hatred?

Matti: After recording our debut album, I guess we had two or three songs ready. Rest of material was written in less than a year.

HH: The last track "The Last Awakening" is more in the Doom Metal style. Why that?

Matti: We didn't want the album to just suddenly stop like it started, so we made this song a little more calm but not too much. It's still brutal but it turns into an Doom Metal outro.

HH: Will you develop your songwriting in this doom direction?

Matti: No, we just wanted this album to end this way. We would never play anything else than Death Metal.

HH: Did you have major problems during the songwriting and recording process?

Matti: Songwriting was incredibly easy and fast. I can't remember any difficulties there, songs just appeared from nowhere. Only problem in studio was when our vocalist Niko and I suddenly became ill, just when we started to record vocals. Almost ruined the whole thing. It wasn't easy, especially for Niko, to growl and scream those lyrics when your throat is killing you.

HH: Did you use effects on the vocals?

Matti: Only effects we used, were different kinds of reverbs and delays. Nothing more.

HH: How would you describe your music with three words?

Matti: Kill and die.

HH: In my opinion the cover of Valor In Hatred look more like a cover of a Thrash Metal CD. So why did decide to take this one?

Matti: We had a little hurry getting our artwork done, and our artist Helgorth offered this cover for us. It's a great cover and we agreed immediately. When you see it, you know that there's something violent inside.

HH: Your label is better known for Doom Metal releases, so why did you choose to sign at Firebox?

Matti: After breaking the recording deal with Black Lotus Records, we just wanted to get our second album released as fast as possible. Firebox was our distributor here in Finland, so we had some cooperation with them before. We told them about our situation and they were interested to release our album, so we signed a deal after few short negotiations.

HH: Imagine, Valor In Hatred is a weapon. What weapon would that be and why?

Matti: Heh, a morning star perhaps, or enormous axe. They both destroy flesh and bones with devastating force.

HH: What about touring? Any plans yet?

Matti: Almost all of us have jobs, so it's impossible for us to tour. Sad but true. We do one gig at a time, and even that is sometimes hard to arrange. Let's just hope that "Valor in Hatred" sells something like hundredthousand copies so that we can piss on our jobs and start touring.

HH: Thanks for your time! The last words are yours!

Matti: Check out our new album. There's samples in our website. Let's keep the scene alive and strong.
