HH: How are you?

Gary Wehrkamp: Just great!

HH: Congratulations to and thanks for your album Voice In The Light. Amaran's Plight is a project founded by some big players of progressive music. What was the reason for this collaboration?

Gary Wehrkamp: John Crawford contacted me about taking some of his ideas and turning them into a record. He needed writers, performers, and a producer - I started producing and said "we need talent on this record -Let's start with a great drummer, and a great singer" - DC was who we called first, the others came later.

HH: What kind of reactions did you receive so far?

Gary Wehrkamp: Very positive reactions. Ya never know what to expect...

HH:What are your plans over the next time? Will we get some more to hear from Amaran's Plight?

Gary Wehrkamp: Big decision - I would like to do another one, but I also seriously want to lend all of my best efforts to another SHADOW GALLERY record, and that should come first - but maybe I will work on both records simultaneously.

HH: Your album based on a novel by John W. Crawford. What was your intention in taking this story as background?

Gary Wehrkamp: It was not my intention - he asked me to make it happen.

HH: The main theme in the story are strong emotions: love, pain, desperation, hope,... How far are feelings important for the music and the production of an album?

Gary Wehrkamp: Emotion is everything in a song - and when you have story - it can be one song, or an entire album - you have the opportunity to make the music meet the words and this is where magic is created, in the execution of emotion based on talent and hard work... and inspiration !

HH: Will Amaran's Plight be only a studio project or will we have the chance to see you live in Germany next time?

Gary Wehrkamp: We are talking about a show or two - maybe not the whole band, as scheduling is a good challenge for that, but I have nothing official to tell you yet.

HH: With this and all the other bands you spend lots of time for the music business. If you have any free time what are your favourite activities?

Gary Wehrkamp: Well, my activities are to write and record music...hahaha - I do not do much else there days, except spend time with my wonderful two year old son - He is truly the center of my world in every way.

HH: What would you advise young musicians who want to become as good and as successful as you to do?

Gary Wehrkamp: To aim high, very high, but be realistic at all times - Diversify and educate yourself. Life is a funny road - You think you are heading in one direction, and twists and turns shape things differently, so keep an open mind... Ultimately, some of the keys to success are working very hard, and being a good decent person, to everyone you meet - You will find great opportunities can come from great behavior.

HH: Thank you very much for your time! Any last words?

Gary Wehrkamp: I hope these are not my last words!
